Installation of a reliable water source for the educators, students, and residents of Sitio Dipodog in Barangay Maras, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Maras, Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte

Quality Education, Water System

Sitio Dipodog is a small community situated in a picturesque mountainous area and is renowned as the toughest place to reach within Barangay Maras in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte. Similarly, the barangay is located far from the highway and is inaccessible by any vehicle due to its mountainous terrain. Though it may appear challenging to some, the hike to this small community is well worth the effort. You can truly immerse yourself in the natural surroundings and appreciate the beauty of the landscape without any noisy vehicles disturbing the peace.

Dipodog Elementary School is located in Sitio Dipodog. Since the community is quite a distance from the highway and not accessible to any vehicle, the teachers and the residents need to walk for two hours on the steep, mountainous terrain and across a wide river. They sometimes pass the Kulitingan (a Subanen word that means bank or riverside) when the river floods. However, this hardship does not hinder the teacher's passion and dedication to their students.

Dipodog Elementary School first opened its doors in 2005. For nineteen years, it has been providing educational services to the locals. The lack of a water system in school presents additional difficulties for the teachers and kids. They gather water from the nearby river to clean the school facilities, irrigate the plants, and maintain physical hygiene. The river is 3 to 4 minutes away from the school and community, and the teachers are worried for their students because they need to cross the steep and mountainous terrain before reaching the school. They have been doing this for nineteen years. Additionally, the teachers are worried for the students’ safety while fetching water because there are snakes around the river; there was an instance where two children died because of a snake bite that happened while they were crossing the rugged landscape. This incident caused great fear among the locals and the teachers, but despite everything, they continue to draw water from the river because it is their only water source.

The school staff aims to install a water system that will not only benefit the students but also the surrounding community. The system will reduce the teacher's workload and reduce the risk of accidents for children and elderly residents. They plan to install the water system within the school premises and connect a PVC hose to the town to allow the community to benefit from it.

Together, we have the power to transform their lives and provide them with a fresh start. Let's contribute to this good cause and be part of changing their lives.
