South Upi, Maguindanao

Child and Youth Development Program, Education, Quality Education

Sitio Kulayan is a remote area in South Upi, province of Maguindanao, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Philippines. Sitio Kulayan is a place that offers a glimpse of the beauty and diversity of South Upi in Maguindanao. It is a place that has witnessed the challenges and opportunities for peace and development in the region, an enchanting place you will fall in love with once you visit. Kulayan Lake is one of the natural attractions in the barangay. It features a serene and scenic body of water surrounded by green hills and forests. It is home to various species of fish and birds and is a source of livelihood for the local fishermen. It is also a popular destination for camping, boating, fishing, and birdwatching.

The inhabitants of Sitio Kulayan are the Teduray and Lambangian tribes. Some of them can be found locally in South Upi. These tribes have distinct languages, customs, beliefs, and traditions that reflect their close relationship with nature and their ancestors. They are well known for their weaving, farming, hunting, and fishing abilities.

In 2014, Sitio Kulayan hosted a landmark peace discussion between the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Philippine government. The International Monitoring Team (IMT) and the Third-Party Monitoring Team (TPMT) conducted the conversation as part of the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro (CAB). The forum sought to address the challenges and concerns of the people of Sitio Kulayan, who were impacted by the 2008 armed confrontation between the MILF and government troops. The meeting concluded with the signing of a joint declaration that reaffirmed both sides' resolve to support the peace process and protect people's human rights and dignity.

The locals are committed to improving peace and harmony in their community. They wish to involve the kids in sporting activities. Engaging in sports activities will help them develop discipline. The local team proposed a sports activity with Values Formation for the young tribe members in the community. The main objective is to promote Values Transformation and community development through grassroots sports programs. In each session, the coach will teach the kids about motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge, and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life.

Community development is a way of strengthening and empowering communities, enhancing people's quality of life, and empowering individuals to engage in decision-making to attain more long-term control over their lives.

This fundraising effort aims to help the kids through grassroots sports programs as a tool for empowerment, education, and social inclusion. Grassroots sports program is a term used to describe the formation of a sports organization that works to train, cultivate, and develop new talent. This initiative aims to build, promote, and grow the sport at the grassroots level in the community.

By supporting this initiative, you may transform the lives of seventy elementary students. Your generosity and kindness will serve as a beacon of hope, igniting a passion for learning and empowering them to reach their full potential.
