Kauswagan, Matanao, Davao del Sur

Child and Youth Development Program, Education, Quality Education

Barangay Kauswagan is one of the 33 barangays of Matanao, a landlocked municipality in the province of Davao del Sur. As of 2020, it has a population of 1,668, accounting for 2.76% of Matanao's total population.

In the year 2023, a peace monument was unveiled in Barangay Kauswagan. The Matanao Municipal Government and the Philippine Army's 39th Infantry Battalion collaborated on the peace monument. It was dedicated to those who laboured, devoted themselves and made the most significant sacrifice for the sake of peace. It also represented Matanao's metamorphosis from a conflict-affected area to a calm, thriving town. The peace monument was built as part of Matanao's attempt to promote peace tourism and highlight the region's natural and cultural resources.

Davao City is quite a ways away from Barangay Kauswagan. To reach the community, tyou may take a bus or van bound for Digos City at the Ecoland Terminal. It takes around an hour and a half. From Digos City, you will take another bus or van bound for Matanao at the Digos Integrated Terminal. The travel time is about 30 minutes. Lastly, from Matanao town proper, you may ride a tricycle or habal-habal (motorcycle) to Barangay Kauswagan. The travel time is about 15 minutes.

One of the community's concerns is the learning poverty experienced by pupils due to reasons such as poverty, lack of access to quality education, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on schooling. The children's weak learning abilities may have significant consequences for their growth, family, and community. This may cause children to fail or drop out of school. When these things happen, the kids are more likely to encounter social marginalization and violence.

To address the challenges faced by students in Barangay Kauswagan, we aim to raise funds to combat learning poverty among children. Tailored interventions focused on improving reading comprehension are essential. By providing targeted resources, personalized guidance, and a conducive learning environment. Fifty students may develop the necessary skills to comprehend and analyze texts effectively. Such support not only empowers them to excel academically but also equips them with crucial life skills that will enhance their overall educational journey and prospects.

By supporting this initiative, you may transform the lives of fifty students. Your generosity and kindness will serve as a beacon of hope, igniting a passion for learning and empowering them to reach their full potential.
